Windsurfing: Hove and Shoreham Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: F6-8 Surf / Sea State: Head high + Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: Sunny Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Headed to Hove at 11:30, tide nicking around the bottom of the concrete
groynes. Rigged 4m Ezzy and punched out through fairly chunky stuff. Line
after line of steep faces, racking up to the horizon. Not a lot of
whitewater, so all relatively easy. I would say top to bottom the outside
swell was around 10 feet. Plenty of down the line, albeit not a rapidly
peeling wave, more a huge chunk of swell. Smooth faces and clean flat
water between each wave. Wind was approaching the limit for the 4.0m.
After almost an hour, wind was noticeably cross onshore and tide getting
higher, so to get a better angle for riding waves, came back in, de-rigged
and drove to ......
...Shoreham. Rigged up 4m again in about 2 minutes and out there. Funny
enough it was BLOODY windy!!! Only two out before me, one surviving with
good style, the other ripping it up on 2007 Neil Pryde sail, JP board.
Massive backloops, shaka, flaka, taka etc etc. So within 5 minutes it was
just me and the World number 3 in Waves, Robby Swift. Yeeaaah baby. I was
avoiding airtime like the plague, he was larging it, but kept my head held
high with a healthy selection of waves. Probably 6 foot faces at Shoreham,
really blown by the wind though. Way overpowered on the wave face. My
energy was gone after half an hour, Swifty pressed on. His double forward
attempt was a highlight.
